Artist Statement
Sultana Hasan was born in Hyderabad but is currently living in Bangalore. She says, “As a student in Paris, my artistic formation was in graphic arts and painting at the Beaux Arts, from where I graduated. I was greatly influenced by my international renowned professors and also by exposure to the works of past and contemporary masters”. Now, “Working in India I am attracted to the explosion of colours. Fabrics, patterns and prints often found their way into my works. I draw inspiration from the people on the streets, market vendors, and construction workers particularly women workers that I find strong, resilient, and graceful despite the hardships they endure”, she says.
