Artist Statement
The characters that Verodina so delicately molds with clay, are playful, introspective, and it feels as if we are catching them in a simple moment of mundanity that gets transformed into something meaningful.
The way she depicts two friends sitting together and playing instruments (‘Symphony’) or shows a woman frantically looking through her brown leather purse (‘Jettison’) tugs at your heartstrings. Her works play with what society believes beauty constructs to be. Verodina depicts people that are real and tangible, “generally interacting, bringing movement and connectivity to the composition; creating a dynamic.” Her grasp on the medium allows her to sculpt in a way that is free-flowing. She uses a muted colour palette and adds hints of reds and blues to highlight and enhance the mood.
